Privacy
Last updated: September 6, 2026
This is a small fan project. It collects as little as possible, uses no tracking or advertising cookies, and never sells your data. The only cookie it ever sets is a functional one, and only if you choose to connect a Steam account. Below is exactly what happens and why.
Usage analytics
The site counts page views with Umami, which sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Nothing is written to your device, so there is nothing to ask permission for and no cookie banner appears.
What gets recorded is the page you viewed, where you arrived from, a coarse location down to country and region, and your browser and device type. Your IP address is not stored alongside any of it. Repeat views within a day are recognised through an anonymous identifier worked out from the request, which is thrown away daily, so your visit today cannot be joined to your visit next week. None of it follows you to other websites.
The browser also reports page performance measurements: how quickly the page starts and its main content appears, how quickly it responds to input, and whether the layout shifts while loading. These timings are attached to the same anonymous page measurement and help find slow or unstable parts of the site.
A small set of actions are counted on top of the page views: completing the quiz, using a result's share or download controls, starting Steam sign-in, using the Steam result downloads, submitting feedback or a game suggestion, and following the Ko-fi link. These counts carry only short categories needed to improve the site, such as the result zone, the number of quiz picks, which button was used, the feedback type, the game a correction concerns, or where a Ko-fi link appeared. They never contain the games picked in the quiz, Steam account or library details, result links, search text, or anything written into a form. Ko-fi itself loads no script here and learns nothing about you until you are on its page.
Connecting your Steam account
Connecting Steam is entirely optional and only happens when you click the button yourself. You sign in through Steam's own site, so this website never sees your Steam password. The only thing Steam reports back is your account's public ID.
Using that ID, the site reads your public Steam library and playtime through Steam's Web API to work out your player type. That read happens on the server, not in your browser, and the data is used only to build your result. Once the result is generated, the data is discarded. Nothing about your Steam library, playtime, or Steam ID is stored.
While you are connected, the site keeps a single functional cookie that holds only your Steam ID, so it knows whose library to read for the session. It is signed, is not readable by scripts, and is cleared when you disconnect. Because it is strictly necessary for a feature you asked for, no intrusive cookie banner is shown.
The only thing that can outlive the request is your player type result itself, which is the same anonymous result the quiz produces: a set of games and a Micro, Meso, Macro reading. It carries no Steam ID, no playtime, and no link back to your Steam account, so saving or sharing it reveals nothing about your Steam profile. No copy of it is kept: a shared result is encoded entirely in its own link, so it lasts only as long as you keep that link, with nothing stored on the server. Nothing read from Steam is ever used for marketing. This section is the privacy policy that Steam's Web API Terms require for handling that data.
Feedback you send
When you use a feedback or game-correction form, the text you write and any values you choose are stored as an issue in a private GitHub repository that only the maintainer can see. Your raw submission is never posted publicly, and it is used to fix and improve the site. Please do not include sensitive personal information in a message. If you want something you sent removed, email the address below and it will be deleted.
Game corrections are the one thing that can appear in public, but only in aggregate form and never in your words to prevent identification. A correction may be surfaced on the Debated games page as a pull on the placement, alongside a short summary. What is published is the aggregated direction, a count of how many corrections point that way, and that hand-written paraphrase. A placement is marked as debated only after the feedback has been read and paraphrased by hand; it is an editorial choice, not an automatic threshold.
Your original text, any identifier, and your IP are never part of what is published, and your words are never quoted; only a paraphrase and the aggregate count ever appear.
Abuse protection
To stop spam, the feedback forms are rate limited by IP address. Your IP is checked against a short rolling window (about an hour) and then aged out. It is processed only to prevent abuse and is never linked to the content of your feedback. The legal basis for this is legitimate interest.
Who processes the data
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access or delete any personal data the site holds about you. In practice the only place anything you typed is held is a feedback issue, so a deletion request means that issue is removed. Connecting Steam stores nothing, so there is nothing there to access or delete. Email feedback@playertype.gg for anything privacy related.
